The Art of It

Last night I went to my girlfriends student showing. She is a film student and at the end of the school year the Profs judge all the projects and compile a fest of sorts to showcase some of the students and their work. This shindig creates quite a stir among the students over the whole semester, the build-up can be excruciating. Suffice it to say, everyone wants to get shown. However, the obvious conclusion is that most do not.

When we found out that her short film was not to be shown her reaction was understandable if not expected. Anyone that puts the work that she does into a project like she did would like at least a little recognition. Artists need people to see their art. It was hard not to try and take away the hardship of rejection even though I felt that she needed the rejection so that she would be urged to excel in her expression and art.

Sad that we as artists get so much joy from practicing our medium but also get so much heartache from one simple rejection.

Sorry to hear of your girlfriend's sadness. Hopefully next time she'll get shown, and make it to cinemas or tv!

I understand the need to be appreciated - perhaps that is the drive to blog - to have people reading what you've written.

Looking forward to more postings. Keep at it!
